View Christopher Nolan's This Epic Preview in a Manner It Was Never Intended for Viewing.

The acclaimed filmmaker's legendary action saga, The Odyssey, is a film audiences have been anticipating since its announcement. It firmly sits as one of the most awaited films of 2026. In a festive surprise, a preview has now been released, though it's hampered by YouTube's poor compression—maybe illustrating why Nolan initially kept the preview exclusive to cinemas.

The Initial Look of the Stellar Ensemble

This first look reveals Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus. We also see Tom Holland as Telemachus alongside Anne Hathaway as Penelope. In a poignant moment, Penelope asks Odysseus to promise he will return, to which he look up and question what happens if he cannot. Furthermore, the preview provides a brief, shadowy glimpse at Polyphemus the Cyclops, whose flock Odysseus and his crew steal on their treacherous voyage.

Based upon a cornerstone in classic storytelling, The Odyssey follows the epic journey of the legendary King of Ithaca. After his triumph at Troy, as told in Homer's Iliad, the king faces an extended and hazardous return to his homeland.

Legendary Obstacles with an All-Star Cast

Along his path, Odysseus confronts countless challenges and mythical beings. This roster features the enchantress Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, and the deceptive Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, Odysseus vows to overcome anything to get back to Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca.

This film's ensemble boasts an impressive lineup. Alongside the leading trio are Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.

A Tale of Many Adaptations

Homer's epic has seen many reinterpretations over the years. Examples include modern retellings and a late-90s dance production. It has even been a stage musical adaptation called Epic: The Musical, presented as a multi-part album series.

A full-length preview was long awaited following the project's reveal and a brief teaser which was initially shown exclusively in theaters. That footage subsequently found its way onto the internet shortly thereafter.

To see a clearer version, the preview available via the film's official social channel may provide a better, clearer look.

The Odyssey will debut on global IMAX screens next summer.
